Daniel 3:16-19
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter.
If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.
But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
In one of the most remarkable demonstrations of faith and boldness in the Bible; Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego went against a powerful king and came out on top.
We live in a time where influence and status are seen as an indicator of a person being “better than” the rest. But in the face of grandiose power, 3 Hebrew men refused to sacrifice their ideals for comfort, choosing instead death and martyrdom, if it came to it.
The flippant attitude of these men is a model for us today. Pressure and outrage from those around us to conform, should be shrugged aside. It means nothing, in the face of the eternal.
Too often, our focus is on the immediate. We neglect to think about the many people who came before us, paving the way for us to stand strong on our doctrine today.
When I go about my day today, I want to be equipped with the same undeniable boldness that the 3 Hebrew men had. My ideals should be on full display, and in the face of conflict, I will not bow to anything except my God.
